DOLPHIN SHORT

I kept calling them running shorts (which, I guess they are), but when I found out this style of short is actually called 'dolphin,' you can imagine my excitement. It only makes them that much cuter/awesome! Here's (more) proof that trends from decades ago can be worn stylish today:
Ashley Tisdale in a relaxed charcoal grey pair of dolphin shorts.

Miranda Kerr goes floral on floral with this more fitted pair.

Another relaxed fit (and thrifted) by Sincerely, Jules.

And the original dolphin short (with matching top and visor, of course).

What's your latest fashion obsession?

DRESS TRENDS

It's wedding season. Or something like that. Whatever the occasion, now is the perfect time to find that pretty little dress to make whatever special day sparkle. Whether a friend's wedding, a brother's graduation ceremony, a garden party at your aunt's, this season's hottest trends can be found in dress form, and in a wide range of affordable (and some not-so-affordable) prices.

Here are my picks for this season's dress trends:

Off-the-shoulder and bold hues.
Go feminine with head to toe lace.

Bright colours--enough said!

Florals (and an elegant high neckline).

Lace, peplum, and this season's cut-outs.

Off-the-shoulder watercolour.

From top to bottom:
1/ Lucienne One-Shoulder Dress in Silk Chiffon (& bright green!) by J.Crew, $290
2/ ASOS Lantern Dress in Lace, $87.83
3/ Crepe Knit Sundress by J.Crew, $198
4/ ASOS Swing Dress in Floral Print, $38.64
5/ Peplum Lace Dress by GoJane, $26.50
6/ Honor Gold Dress in Watercolour Floral Print, $66.75

STRIPES 2.0

Although I once had a fear of striped apparel, the nautical look has now become a huge part of my wardrobe. And while mixing prints seems to be one of this season's go-to trends, stripes are no exception.

Breaking all the rules: dark versus light & bright tones in horizontal and vertical stripes.
Denim, blue, and stripes all over is an easy, casual look that anyone can re-create.
Another take on stripes? Wide versus skinny stripes.

How do you like to mix your stripes?

SO KNOTTED

It's not exactly the way knotted tops were worn in the '90s, but the easy-chic, slightly undone feel that comes with that tied up top has been making a comeback for the past couple years now. What an easy way to turn an otherwise plain top into something that's effortlessly cute!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend--I'll be back tomorrow with a weekend update, plus delicious new recipes!

FRINGE

One of my must-haves for this summer? A staple for summer music festival-goers: the fringe bag. But, even if you didn't go to Coachella and aren't planning to hit up Lollapalooza, it doesn't mean you can't take fringe to the streets. Take a cue from these gals, who show you how a little fringe can add some boho chic to any outfit.

Basic black fringe and on a budget? No problem, go here for style and a deal.

Go for low-slung and suede like Vanessa Hudgens, find hers here or try this one.

Don't want all-over fringe, but still want fringe detailing? This one's for you.

What about this saddlebag-style with embroidered detailing? Find a similar one here or another cute option here.

Or go for colour like Ashley Tisdale. Find a bright blue one here.

What's your favourite pick? Or do you have another summer bag trend that you're gushing over?

MISS MIX-A-LOT

What's hot this season? Mixing prints. From tie-dyes, graphics, and Aztec prints to stripes, florals, and polka-dots,  skip the matchy matchy and go wild with unexpected combinations.

Whitney Port's cute printed shorts with a loose-fitted tee.

Danni of Denj's nautical-floral look.

This bright coloured clutch gets this season's approval, but what about floral on floral?

Finish off your mixed prints look with bright accessories like Blake.

More mixing, less matching. Happy Monday!

EmersonMade was featured in my first fashion-related blog post ever. And the talent behind the successful brand is back with a whole new line, Emerson Fry. From Ikat tunics for trips to the beach to structured shifts and breezy silk dresses, it's no secret--this stuff is darling.

GOOP STYLE

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Gwyneth Paltrow. She's like her own kind of super woman. On top of maintaining a successful career, she has two kids, a pretty-alright musician husband, she cooks, works out on a regular basis, runs a blog, and all while seeming chill and down to earth (as much as someone of her fame can).

Okay yes, she probably has a lot of help along the way, but I still can't help but be impressed.

These photos are from Gwyneth's blog GOOP (which if you've never checked out, go! Now! I was first introduced to GOOP by my good friend C and I'm hooked). With the help of Polyvore, Gwyneth pulled together her go-to looks for spring and I have to say, there's definitely a few looks I'll be trying this season! Hello, adorable jumpsuit and pull-on shorts with a cropped jacket? Her looks are casual, but fun and pulled together at the same time--and so she does it again!

Oh, Gwyneth.

For the rest of GP's looks, go here.

THE ALL-STARS

My first choice of footwear this spring? A pair of practical sneakers (evidently, they go with everything).

Apologies for being so MIA lately...I've been a little busy. You can expect a lot more of this inconsistent blog posting from now until the end of April (I'm six weeks out from finishing my Masters! woop woop!).

So, aside from feeling inspired by a pair of Converse this morning (actually), I'm also feeling inspired (motivated?) to get some work done on my thesis.

Happy Monday! What's inspiring you today?

SPRING WOULD-LIKES

Okay, it's still kind of chilly outside, but I can't help but be excited for warm and sunny days. Here's what I'm currently craving for spring (old and new):

Dusting of the ol' white blazer for a pulled-together look; find similar here.

Shirt dresses like this cute pink number, and this and this.

We mustn't forget this season's trendy coloured denim (swoon).

What's a spring outfit without perfectly painted nails (in pretty pastels by Essie)?

And finally, a pair of cat's eye sunglasses like these or these!

What fashion pieces are you looking forward to most this spring?

WE LOVE

Loafers. Or as I like to call them, smoking slippers. Especially the ones from Anthropologie--talk about cute.

I already have a pair of leopard print loafers that I absolutely adore, but a pair in glitter or brights wouldn't be a bad idea, too!

Putting my pennies in a jar for a pair of these bad boys starting...now.

Happy Friday!
